A review by Phil Pickett:

SAILOR STOP PRESS 22 OCTOBER 2000.......

SAILOR'S FIRST LONDON PERFORMANCE SINCE 1978
(where they played at the Empire Ballroom, Leicester Square)

Legendary 1970's band SAILOR perform their first live show (Oct 14)in London for many years to an ecstatic reception in the heart of London's seedy clubland, Soho - at the "Groucho Club" in Dean St. W1
SAILOR "stormed" their 3-song set and were definitely the stars of the evening, and in the process helped to raise over £10,000 for the street people.
The charity show in aid of the many homeless people in London, attracted a glittering array of some of the UK's top stars of comedy, theatre and music.
Enjoying Sailor's set were Annie Lennox (Eurythmics), Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders (who 'beamed' in the front row - like the Wagners (!) for the entire short set, and later said it was the best thing she'd seen for years!)
Also appearing :- Suggs (from Madness) Martin Fry (ABC) Heaven 17, the Average White Band and Steven Fry to name but a few.
Anthony, Grant Peter and Phil opened the second half of the evening with "A GLASS OF CHAMPAGNE" "LA CUMBIA" and "SECRETARY", and have all since been made honourary members of London's most famous and exclusive showbiz club.
The band are now greatly looking forward to their forthcoming concerts in Vienna and Wels in Austria in early November (3rd and 4th) and recording a new album next year.
Greetings from s@ilor headquarters
Phil
